trainer & trainings

Minnesota Tribal Resources for Early Childhood Care (MNTRECC) wants to positively impact the experiences of children in early childhood settings within tribal communities.

Our goal is to establish a pool of cultural trainers that can offer culturally relevant training opportunities throughout the state of MN.

MNTRECC’s Trainer and Training Approval process will help you:

  • Develop your skills as a trainer
  • Create culturally relevant training courses that can be accessed within your community and throughout the state
  • Navigate through the MN Trainer and Course Approval system (DEVELOP) to help you meet your requirements to become a trainer
  • Market yourself as a trainer so you can be financially compensated for sharing your skills and experience

Potential trainer candidates have two (2) pathways options to become a trainer in Achieve, the MN Center for Professional Development.

  • Academic Degree – This system applies your education to a “trainer level”. If you have an Early Childhood Associate, Bachelor degree or work in a higher education institute, this would be the choice for you OR
  • Tribal Trainer Advisory Committee (TTAC) – This is the Native American Cultural Trainer and Training Approval System developed through MNTRECC. If you do not have an Early Childhood degree OR are interested in presenting training to enhance cultural learning, this would be the choice for you.

For more information, visit Trainer Membership Companion Guide or contact MNTRECC.

MNTRECC with Support of the Department of Children, Youth & Family (formally known as DHS) designed the Native American Cultural Trainer Membership type & Cultural Training approval process. Originally this pathway was designed to ensure that our elderly/traditional knowledge keepers could provide training to tribal communities/care providers and that trainer would be listed on participates learning record in Develop.

MNTRECC designed a system where each of the 11 MN Federally Recognized Tribes, and tribal communities within the metro area, can establish a TTAC to approve trainers who reside within their tribal community and review and approve their own culturally specific trainings.

Statewide Tribal Training Advisory Committee (TTAC), the members of the Statewide committee are the MNTRECC Planning Team Members or select individuals within tribal community identified by the Planning Team. This committee meets with potential trainer, ask a few questions to get to know the candidate than asked them to provide a 10-minute mock training. Following the mock training the TTAC makes a recommendation to endorse the candidate and/or make suggestions to support the potential candidate training skills.

For more information please refer to Cultural Trainer & Training Approval Process Guidebook
